Mom's Chocolate Cake and Frosting

This is the real stuff. I used to bring this whenever it was my turn to bring "treats" for a school event, and people would ask what kind it was. I'd start telling them what was in it. They'd say, "Your mom bakes? Doesn't she have a job?" I'd say she did, and they'd say, "She bakes and she has a job?" But honestly, this cake is not hard. It just tastes good.

1/2 t. salt

2 c flour

2 c sugar

4 T cocoa

1 t vanilla

1 c water

1/2 c milk

2 sticks margarine (one cup)

1 t soda

2 eggs, slightly beaten

Sift together flour and sugar in mixing bowl. Place margarine, cocoa, and water in saucepan and bring to a rapid boil. Pour over flour/sugar mixture. Stir well. Add milk, soda, salt, eggs, and vanilla. Mix well. Pour into a greased and floured pan. If it's a jellyroll pan, bake 18 minutes at 400 degrees. If it's a metal pan, 350 degrees, 30 minutes.

The Frosting

1 c sugar

5 T margarine

1/3 c milk

6 oz. semisweet chocolate chips

Combine sugar, margarine, and milk in a small saucepan. Boil, stirring constantly, for one minute. Remove from heat and stir in the chocolate chips until they're smooth. Pour over the cake and spread.

Mmmmmm.
