dark teal background, harpy wing, text A Dubious Clamor by Marissa Lingen

My debut fantasy novella, out September 15, 2026 from ! A Dubious Clamor sweeps through an alternate 19th century London with the rush of harpy wings and the sweet savor of cake. Julia (Jules) works at magical odd jobs, but her childhood friend Anthony has inherited the oddest job yet: a sword that cuts through undue certainty. Jules has always been the most opinionated person in the room (or, for the years she was cursed to live as a harpy, the most opinionated person in the sky), so she is sure she can manage a mere weapon...if only she could bring herself to disagree with the sword. Since she can't, she has to muster an alliance of those who don't quite fit to ally with the sharp-edged skeptic against those who would force them into a magically enforced conformity.

Followed shortly by my first science fiction novella, due out in the summer of 2027 from Union Square Books! That Fatal Discontent is a generation ship story inspired by--or at least reacting to--Shakespeare's Richard III. Tess is perfectly suited for her life in space--born for it, in fact. So her ship's approach to a planet, where gravity will turn her natural advantages into serious disabilities, feels more like a stern alarum than a merry meeting. The power she has to fight to wield, even over her own family, is life and death...at least, someone's life and someone's death....
